Women in Tech
As a busy mom I know just how important your time really is. But I also know that education plays a vital role in both our lives as well as our children’s lives as well. I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education and it was one of the smartest things I ever did. But now that our daughter is a Senior in High School our focus is shifting towards the next step in her educational career. While it is a scary thought it is one that we are excited about at the same time.
Heading off to college is an exciting time for both parents as well as children and it allows them to continue their education but it also gives them the long-awaited escape from childhood. However, along with adulthood comes lots of responsibility but one of the best solutions to this new set of life challenges is the WGU Missouri. Which is an online, competency-based university that was created to expand access to higher education to Missouri residents.
WGU University offers 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the fields of business, K-12 teacher education, information technology, and health professions, including nursing. WGU Missouri faculty members serve as mentors, working one-on-one with students, offering guidance, support, and individualized instruction. Liz is planning on heading into the health profession and that is one of the things we looked for when comparing colleges. But the fact that she will already have her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant licence when she graduates puts her a step ahead already.)
I love the fact that WGU University was established in 2013 through a partnership with nationally recognized Western Governors University, WGU Missouri is open to all qualified Missouri residents. The university is nonprofit and self-sustaining on flat-rate tuition of about $6,000 per year for most programs. ***I know I can’t get much cheaper!
More About WGU University
- Degrees are granted under the accreditation of Western Governors University, which is accredited through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Teachers College programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE*).
- Competency Based Education (CBE) allows students to prove what they already know and build on that existing knowledge – no need to repeat courses when you’re already proficient in the content! Which is a huge benefit because of her having her CNA license .
- Designed for people with busy lifestyles who need an affordable, quality education to advance their careers. Which allows both older and younger adults to further their education.
Why apply for a scholarship?
Why wouldn’t you apply for a scholarship? It allows you or your child to further their education as well as save you money at the same time which is what I strive to do. But more importantly today is October 3, 2015 which is known as “National Techie Day” and WGU Missouri is supporting women who would like to advance their career in Information Technology (IT) by offering a $2,000 scholarship! This is a great opportunity to diversity diversify an industry that is only 24 percent female! So be sure you apply at Women in Tech today!
